  • 4 cups mashed potatoes Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with milk and butter.

Liquids/Dairy

  • 2 cups beef broth Choose low-sodium broth to control saltiness.
  • 1 cup milk Mix with broth for a creamy consistency.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Ensure it is at room temperature before adding to avoid curdling.

Aromatics & Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, chopped Sauté until translucent for the best taste.

Optional Finishing Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter Melt in skillet for cooking patties.

Preparation

  • Shape the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.

Cooking

  • Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Remove the patties and add the chopped onions to the drippings in the skillet, sautéing for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute.
  • Pour in the beef broth while continuously stirring to avoid lumps, then bring to a simmer until it thickens.
  • Remove from heat and mix in the milk and sour cream.
  • Return the hambuger patties to the pan, spoon the sauce over them, and simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
  • Serve the steak bake hot over mashed potatoes.

Notes

Add paprika for extra flavor and garnish with fresh herbs for elegance. Customize with vegetables for a colorful plate.
