Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

For the Chicken

  • 2 pounds chicken thighs or breast
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, five-spice powder, and sesame oil.
  • Add the chicken to the bowl and coat it well with the marinade. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Cooking

  • Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and charred.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to rest for a few minutes. Slice the chicken and serve with chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top.

Serving

  • Arrange sliced chicken attractively on a platter, drizzling extra glaze over the top.
  • Pair with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • Cut into bite-sized pieces for easy eating if serving at a party.
  • Enjoy with iced green tea or a light white wine for a refreshing balance.

Notes

Enhance flavor by adding fresh ginger or chili flakes to the marinade. Customize by using different proteins like pork or tofu. Serve with extra hoisin or soy sauce for dipping if desired.
