Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour Sift before measuring to avoid a dense cake.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Mix thoroughly with flour for even distribution.
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Sift to remove lumps before using.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs Use room-temperature for better incorporation.
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Makes the batter thin; helps the cake stay moist.

For the Ganache

  • 1 cup heavy cream Heat gently to avoid boiling.
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (chopped) Use good-quality chocolate for best taste.

For the Nest and Decoration

  • decorative chocolate for the nest Melt nicely; use colored candy melts for a festive touch.
  • mini Easter eggs Fill the nest with these.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until blended.
  • To the dry ingredients, add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth.
  • Slowly stir in the boiling water until well combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Making the Ganache

  • While the cake cools, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until just simmering.
  • Remove from heat and pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate, allowing it to sit for a few minutes. Whisk until smooth.

Creating the Chocolate Nest

  • Melt your decorative chocolate and use a fork to create swirls on parchment paper to form a nest shape; allow it to cool.
  • Once the ganache is set, pour it on top of the cake and place the cooled chocolate nest on it, filling with mini Easter eggs.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of espresso powder. Customization is encouraged; feel free to add nuts or chocolate chips for variation.
