Cake Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • Eggs, oil, and water as directed on the box Follow the instructions on the cake mix packaging.

Frosting and Coating

  • 1/2 cup vanilla frosting
  • 12 oz orange candy melts
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (optional) Use to help thin the chocolate.
  • 1/2 cup black candy melts
  • 1/4 cup green candy melts
  • 1 tsp orange sprinkles (optional)

Additional Supplies

  • 24 pieces cake pop sticks
  • 24 pieces small green candy stems or green fondant pieces For decorating the cake pops.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare the vanilla cake mix as directed on the box and bake in a 9x13 inch pan. Allow it to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl.
  • Mix in the vanilla frosting until the mixture is moist and holds together.
  • Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Freeze the cake balls for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Coating

  • In separate bowls, melt the orange, black, and green candy melts according to package instructions.
  • Dip the end of each cake pop stick into the orange candy melts and insert it into a cake ball. This helps to hold the stick in place.
  • Fully dip the cake ball into the orange candy melts and let excess drip off. Place back on the parchment.
  • Use a small amount of black candy melts to pipe spooky faces on each cake pop. Add green candy melts for the stems.
  • Sprinkle orange sprinkles if desired. Let the pops set until the chocolate hardens.

Notes

For flavor enhancement, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract to the cake mix. Customize by adding different flavors like chocolate or lemon to the cake base. Serve with a side of spooky-themed snacks to create a fun dessert spread.
