Creamy Sauce Ingredients

  • salt and pepper to taste Season according to preference.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Wash and thinly slice the russet potatoes to about a quarter-inch thick. Set aside the slices in a bowl of cold water to prevent browning.
  • In a pan on medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add chopped onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.

Making the Sauce

  • Sprinkle flour over the cooked onions and stir for about a minute. Gradually pour in the heavy cream while continuously stirring.
  • Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Layering and Cooking

  • In your slow cooker, layer one-third of the sliced potatoes, then one cup of cheddar cheese and half a cup of mozzarella cheese, followed by one-third of the sauce. Repeat this twice more, finishing with cheese on top.
  • Cover and cook on low for about 4 hours, until potatoes are fork-tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serving

  • Once cooked, gently stir the layers and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

To enhance the flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or customizing with different cheeses like Swiss or pepper jack. For a chiffonade of flavor, serve with a dollop of sour cream.
