Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Avoid packing into the measuring cup for best results.
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking Powder Can substitute with baking soda, adjust quantities.
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt Enhances flavor, balances sweetness.
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted Butter Softened to room temperature.
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar Brown sugar can be substituted for a moister texture.
  • 2 large Eggs Provides richness and moisture; can use flaxseed meal as a vegan alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Can substitute with almond extract for a different flavor.
  • 0.5 teaspoons Almond Extract Optional; skip for vanilla flavor only.
  • 0.5 cups Powdered Sugar For coating; reducing sugar will affect the crinkle effect.
  • Gel Food Coloring Use pastel shades to color dough.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar to the bowl. Beat until creamy and light, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and optionally, almond extract to the mixture. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually stir in the flour mixture. If using food coloring, divide the dough and mix in the colors.
  • Form small balls (about 1 inch) from the dough and roll in powdered sugar to coat.
  • Place the coated dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are firm but the centers look slightly underdone.
