Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry Use frozen puff pastry; thaw according to package instructions.

Filling

  • 4 oz softened cream cheese Make sure to soften at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar Balance the sweetness in the filling.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Enhances the flavor of the filling.
  • 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries Rinse and slice before adding to the filling.

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg egg (for egg wash) Use for a shiny golden crust.
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash) Mix with the egg for the wash.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unfold your puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or knife, cut out heart shapes from the pastry.
  • In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart and top with a few slices of strawberries.
  • Brush the edges of each pastry heart with the egg wash mixture.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a dash of cinnamon to the filling. Serve warm for the best taste and texture. Customize fillings with various fruits or jams as desired.
