  • 1.5 cups warm water Temperature should be between 100°F to 110°F.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil Can substitute melted butter, but avoid using too much.

Filling Ingredients

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Use raw or sautéed; adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 cup fresh herbs, chopped Use parsley, thyme, or rosemary; dried herbs can be used sparingly.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Use mozzarella or cheddar; other options include feta or Parmesan.

Instructions

Dough Preparation

  • Step 1: Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt, mixing well to distribute evenly.
  • Step 3: Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  • Step 4: Knead dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Rising and Shaping

  • Step 5: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  • Step 6: While the dough rises, mix minced garlic, chopped herbs, and shredded cheese in a bowl.
  • Step 7: Punch down the dough, roll it out into a rectangle, spread the herb mixture, and roll tightly. Pinch seams to seal.
  • Step 8: Place the rolled dough in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let it rise for 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Step 9: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Step 10: Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Notes

Add grated Parmesan to the filling for an extra cheese kick. This bread can be customized by adding sun-dried tomatoes or olives.
