Ingredients
  

For the Custard

  • 1 cup custard powder High-quality custard powder provides the base for the creamy filling.
  • 4 cups whole milk Fresh whole milk helps achieve a rich and creamy filling.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the custard perfectly.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Enhances the flavor beautifully.

For the Pastry

  • 1 package puff pastry Creates the flaky layers.

Optional Toppings

  • 1 cup whipped cream Adds richness and a lovely presentation.
  • to taste powdered sugar For dusting on top.
  • to taste fresh fruit (e.g. strawberries, raspberries) Enhances flavors.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Roll out thawed puff pastry onto a baking sheet. Trim edges and score lightly for an even bake. Bake for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Making the Custard

  • In a saucepan, combine milk and sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  • In a separate bowl, mix custard powder with a little cold milk, then add to the simmering mixture. Stir continuously for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  • Remove custard from heat and stir in vanilla. Let it cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

Assembling the Squares

  • Once the puff pastry is baked and cooled, cut it into squares.
  • Spoon a generous amount of custard on half of the squares, then top with the other half.
  • Place the assembled squares in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set.

Serving

  • Remove from the fridge, add whipped cream if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container. For freezing, wrap each square in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months.
